• SST Training information is displayed on the employees NYCDOB Training Connect Site Safety Training Card .  All the he SST ID card information on one card and is the only SST ID card the NYC Department of Buildings will accept as valid proof of worker site safety training. The NYCDOB Training Connect SST ID card will replaced all previously issued SST ID cards as of March 18, 2023 and is the card DOB will accept as valid proof of worker site safety training. The Department of Buildings states that they will take Enforcement Action if they find a worker is not appropriately trained and does not have the new NYCDOB Training Connect SST ID.  The SST Online Training courses are an option to get employee training completed on your schedule and convenience.

•  Local Law 196 of 2017 requires that construction and demolition workers on job sites with a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager must have a total of 40 hours of training.  If a worker is a construction or demolition worker who requires site safety training, they must also complete the Site Safety Orientations and Pre-Shift Safety Meetings required by Sections 3301.11 and 3301.12 of the New York City Building Code. 
• Local Law 196 of 2017 requires Supervisors at job sites required to designate a Site Safety Professional (Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager) receive 62 hours of site safety training. Thus includes construction and demolition workers on job sites with a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager. 
• A SST Supervisor Card is required to serve as the competent person, as specified by Section 3301.13.12 of the New York City Building Code. Section 3301.13.12 requires a Construction Superintendent designate a Competent Person for each job site he/she is responsible for and that the designated Competent Person must always be present at the job site active work occurs.

• The HAZWOPER standard requires that a written certificate be given to each person certified for either 8-, 24- or 40-hour HAZWOPER training. For 24- or 40-hour training, if the employee has received equivalent training, the employer can demonstrate such equivalency by documentation or certification.. See 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(6) and 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(9).   
• OSHA does not recommend, approve, certify, or endorse individual trainers or training programs.  OSHA has stated that their policy is that use of computer-based training by itself would not be sufficient to meet the intent of the standard's various training requirements. There are two primary considerations for you to explore before deciding whether to take an on-line HAZWOPER course.
• For HAZWOPER training, it is essential that the trainees have hands-on experience and exercises that provide an opportunity to become familiar with equipment and safe practices in a non-hazardous setting. The purpose of hands-on training (e.g., donning and doffing of protective equipment, using air monitoring equipment) is two-fold: first, to ensure that workers have an opportunity to learn by practical experience and second, to assess whether workers have mastered the necessary skills.  Employers need to know how an on-line course provides this hands-on training
• Also, in an effective training program, it is critical that trainees have the opportunity to ask questions where material is unfamiliar to them. Providing access to a telephone hotline or an e-mail contact at the time of the training so that trainees will have direct access to a qualified trainer at the time their questions are raised is one way a computer-based training program may accomplish this requirement.
